ÁBALOS, A SMALL VILLAGE IN THE RIOJANA SONSIERRA

Ábalos is a small village located on the southern slope of the Sierra Cantabria, in the heart of the Rioja Alta and that together with San Vicente de la Sonsierra and Briñas, form the “Sonsierra Riojana”.

This sunny location brings a special charm to the hiker while walking among its cool manor houses. One of the main attractions is its urban center, its natural environment, plagued by innumerable vineyards, its numerous wineries, both of a family nature and those with a marked commercial accent.

The nature that surrounds Ábalos is divided between that of the Ebro Valley in its foothills of the Sierra Cantabria, populated by poplars and native groves, and the mountain itself, which highlights the gall oak and oak trees. The fauna is dominated by river and mountain birds.
Near Ábalos we find many charming villages that we encourage you to visit: San Vicente de la Sonsierra, Briones and its Museum Dinastía Vivanco, Haro, Laguardia, San Millán de la Cogolla, Santo Domingo de la Calzada, Ezcaray and Logroño.

HARO, ELCIEGO, LAGUARDIA... WE FIND IN A PERFECT AREA TO DISCOVER THE PEOPLES WITH THE MOST CHARMING IN THE AREA

So that you do not miss anything, we have created a very special guide with all these towns and the most outstanding visits in each one of them

LA RIOJA, A LAND WITH A WINE NAME

La Rioja, land of wine, has much to offer our travelers. A small but diverse territory offers other possibilities: to know its history, its monuments, its traditions, its culture, in which we highlight its monasteries and being the cradle of Castilian.

The Rioja of the monasteries is concentrated: in the Najerilla Valley, between the Sierra de la Demanda and the Camino de Santiago, near the Ebro. The route includes the Valvanera Monastery (at a thousand meters of altitude) under the Pancrudo mountains, and continues through the Monastery of Suso and Yuso, a World Heritage Site since 1997 and where the first words were found in Spanish and in Basque: the Emilianenses Gloss of Codex 60.

Land rich in natural resources provided by the Ebro Valley and the mountains of the Iberian System favors nature tourism by proposing activities such as skiing, water sports, hiking, balloon rides, golf and outdoor sports that will make you enjoy the Riojan landscape . In addition, you will be able to enjoy our festivities of national tourist interest known throughout the country for their spectacularity and uniqueness, including the picajos of San Vicente de la Sonsierra, the battle of the Haro wine.
